Álvaro Taboada, Juan Coderch, Felipe Frigerio and Marcelo Aedo, on electric guitar, drums, keyboards and bass correspondingly, give form to this band.
The musicians met while they were studying at the Conservatory of music (Universidad de Chile), and later took different musical and
personal paths. Alvaro developed his work as a composer and multi instrumentalist in his ethnic fusion project Alkymia. Simultaneously,
he worked as a producer in the audiovisual industry. Felipe joined the emblematic band De Kiruza together with Juan, who was in parallel
a percussionist in the Symphonic Orchestra of Chile.
Álvaro and Juan travelled to India to study Sitar and Tabla respectively. After all these life experience, they finally decided to join their musical backgrounds in this new band called Ojo de Pez. In 2017, Marcelo Aedo, renowned bass and contrabass player joined the band.
The musical atmosphere of this group is influenced by some of the greatest American and European jazz fusion bands together with South American rhythms,
colors and melodic motifs from diverse corners of the world. You can hear rumors from Africa, Ireland, Northern India and feel the warm
latin american breezes. Ojo de Pez takes us on a journey with an intense binnacle of sensations, rich colors and and a unique aesthetic proposal .
ALVARO TABOADA
Studied music at the Conservatory of Universidad de Chile, working over 15 years in music making and music production for radio, television, soundtracks and advertising.
He’s also worked along with Claudia Stern and Darío Cortés in “Alkymia”; a project where he performed as a composer, arranger, producer and a multi-instrumentalist. This, his first musical production was published in 2010 by the American record label Alcione.
Their album was nominated amongst the 10 best albums of the year by the american magazine "New Age Voice".
This interest in ethnic music led him to Varanasi, India to study Sitar with master Pandit Shivnath Mishra, and to travel the world looking for and exploring new sounds.
Alvaro is currently working as a mixing engineer and recording artist but also as a music producer; a centerpiece of this work is the album "Voy y Vuelvo”,
which was granted the Premio APES award for Best Album production of the year in 2007.
In 2014, joining forces with thirteen other outstanding musicians, he recorded "Colores de Fuego”; first album by Ojo de Pez, a work that delivers ten of his original creations.
JUAN CODERCH
The free-thinking nature of a percussionist like Juan Coderch made it possible for worlds as “historically opposed" like classical music and
street music, could be subtly connected while at play. Coderch studied music at the Conservatory of the Universidad de Chile and also in Cleveland, Ohio-USA; nowadays he performs with the Chilean Symphony Orchestra as the percussion soloist, Juan has been involved with several musical projects: Cruz del Sur, Bandhada, Kameréctrica, La Red y Ensamble, performing many styles like pop with De Kiruza, urban cueca with Mario Rojas, ballads with Alberto Plaza and fusion with Ernesto Holman and Antonio Restucci. Coderch has recorded the album “Repercusión” which contains his work of art. He’s also studied in India where he learned the spirituality of the tabla drum, which has become the new center of his musical balance. As one of the most renown percussionists in national history, he was recognized by his peers and was presented with the Premio Altazor, the award for Musical Performance category.
FELIPE FRIGERIO
Studied music at the University of Chile, participated as a keyboard player in several bands; perhaps the most renown has been the project named "El Carro" working along with Francesca Ancarola, Patricio Aravena, Juan Coderch and Fernando González. During the late eighties
he joined the popular band "De Kiruza”. Later in 2006, he performs as a keyboard player with Claudia Stern`s band and forms his individual project “Barrote”, an incursion in electronic music.
MARCELO AEDO
Recognized as one of the best chilean bass players, Marcelo has become a complete musician.
He studied classical guitar at the Escuela Moderna de Musica, classical guitar andcounterbass at the Universidad Catolica. He aldo studied
bass Jazz with Master Roberto Lecaros. While recording more than 50 albums and touring more than 25 countries; he’s collaborated with
some of the most influential Chilean musicians such as: Eduardo Gatti, Pablo Herrera, Nicole, Inti-Illimani, Isabel and Angel Parra, etc.
Marcelo is also one of the founding members of two of the most iconic jazz fusion bands in Chile: Al Sur and Trifusión. He’s also a recording artist playing along with Antonio Restucci, Roberto Lecaros, Francesca Ancarola, Angel Parra and many more. As a composer, his music has been part of several films and has been awarded the Best Music Award at the Festival De Cine Independiente in Mexico City. Marcelo has
been nominated for the Premio Altazor award in 2001 as Best musical performer and, later in 2007 for Best jazz and alternative music album.
